Glittery spider webs, flashing bat lights, haunted houses and painted pumpkins have turned our room into a Halloween paradise. As if this wasn't enough, I added flashing skeleton lights this morning. I can't wait for costumes to finish the look!
Our party will take place on Wednesday morning beginning at 11:00. We will join Katlyn's class in making crafts with our older elementary buddies in Betsy and Kim's classes. If the weather is decent we will then have a parade at 11:30 and finish by recess. We encourage you to send your child's costume to school and they'll change before the party. They will most likely be playing outside after the party so please keep footwear and warmth in mind. As always, no weapons are allowed.
In keeping with the seasonal spirit our new letter is W for witch. As I pulled out objects from my letter bag, the children were able to quickly discern the sound was /w/ but weren't sure if the letter was W or R. This is a serious question at 4 years of age so we had to look at mouth formation when making the sounds of both letters. All this is to say don't be surprised when your child pushes out his/her lips to make a /w/ sound.
This class loves the challenge of finding words beginning with a new sound and found an amazing 40 words! As we progressed through our day, they added to their word list and most of them actually started with W.
Yeah, team!
Our new color for the week is green. I thank the three parents who somehow knew in advance and dressed their children in green. Sam is also grateful for his green inside shoes. It's really fun to take a color picture on the first day a color word is introduced.
This crazy weather has our class checking weather.com frequently in the hopes that we'll see snow headed our way. We will end our day by doing the traditional snow dance and you will probably be asked to place a spoon under a pillow, put a white crayon in the freezer and allow your child to wear their pajamas inside out. It all seems reasonable to me but you'll have to make your own decision in this department. Just in case our tricks work, check the local TV and radio stations for delay/closing information. It will specifically say Community School since we don't follow the local schools' calendars and closings.
