Each year I am impressed with the amazing art and performances by the children at C.S. but this year I left the theater in awe. Naturally the Early Learners and Lower Elementary were so cute I laughed through most of it, but the rest were so incredible I couldn't take my eyes off of them! I kept thinking about my class in a couple of years and imagining them in those same roles.  Call those talent scouts now, they're going to be busy.

After the crazy rehearsal schedules and mad finish to perfect art projects, this week is going to seem...boring.  We all know boring is never good so we turned our sand table into an ocean.  You and I know the difference between oceans and lakes but children don't so I put plain water in one cup and salt water in another.  I then had the children dip fingers into each and taste.  They could tell the difference but only my dedicated beach baby, Evalyn , could tell us one was salty.  We talked about the ocean being the salty water and added salt and water to our sand table.  They immediately noticed a foaminess when the water was stirred up.  We went back to the table two times this morning for more observation and found that while the foam was gone the water still was not as clear as plain water.  Hmm.... perhaps a field trip to the ocean could clarify this mystery for us.

Here is a reminder for you:  our last book order of the year is due tomorrow.  I won't place the orders until late Wednesday night so please order before 9 p.m. because everyone knows teachers need lots of sleep.  There are many book levels available this month for summer reading.  A rainy summer day is the perfect time to develop a love for books and the excitement they bring on otherwise dreary days.  I personally am buying my nephews the Skippyjon Jones series so they too can go around saying "pickle pants".
