In case you haven't yet heard, our egg container was a success and our egg survived the egg drop. The children had discussed packages in the mail with bubble wrap and peanuts and decided their needed the same protection. They selected a tea box, wrapped their egg and did three test drops on Thursday. All was good. On Friday they got a little nervous and decided to use a larger box with more peanuts and bubble wrap to nest their small egg box in. UPS should have this group working for them!
Monday featured the Dr. Seuss book "I Can Read with My Eyes Closed". We decorated star shaped sunglasses with jewels, feathers and stickers which we are saving for our big parade next week.
Tuesday was Alora's leader day and she brought balloons for Show and Share. It was one of those moments when as a teacher you know you must seize the opportunity to celebrate childhood. We batted balloons, let the air out to chase them, penguin walked with them between our legs and sat upon them waiting for the inevitable "Pop!". I believe the blog pictures say it all.
Today we read "If I Ran the Zoo". After reading so many Seuss stories I thought it would be obvious to the children that none of the animals names by Gerald McGrew existed. It took a little discussion before I realized this and had to explain it was more "Seussical" nonsense. I gave them play time and music class to make up a creature of their own and they drew it in their zoo scene. The new breeds are quite clever with some combined animals and others just invented. Ask your child what they created.
We will start working on our Thingamajigs tomorrow although the book won't be read until next week. I fear it will take more time than we will have with conferences taking a day out of our schedule next week.
Friday is Pajama Day and we will read "The Sleep Book". It is supposed to be rather warm so please keep this in mind when helping them to select their pajamas. Please also keep in mind they will be playing on the playground and still need shoes.
Scholastic book orders are due Friday by 9:00 p.m.. We only have two other chances to order this year so you might want to get online to look over this month's offerings.
Since the warm weather seems to be here to stay we have already sent home the permission slips for sunscreen. It is not required for your child to have sunscreen at school but if you want us to apply it here we need the signed permission slip and a bottle marked with their name.
