It only seems appropriate for our new letter to be V, as in valentine. Have you ever noticed how close F and V are in sound? It was a bit confusing yesterday as the children tried out different words to see if their words really began with F or V. I finally told them to gently bite their lower lip, make vocal noise and enjoy the buzz on their lip. Well, that ended the questions but you can imagine the sound in the room. Perhaps K will be next and we'll all be kazoos!

We have been working on a special Valentine cards for parents. You may have noticed pink/red tinted hands yesterday. Don't ask.

Today was buddy time with Keri's class and the combined groups worked on making decorations for the Hollins Adult Home right down the street. We had a plethora of beautiful cut hearts in various sizes and papers. We challenged the children to use the hearts, glue, brads and pipe cleaners to make "love bugs". No markers were allowed so if they desired facial features they had to figure out how to do it with only the available materials. This is a great group. They love a challenge and were nonplussed by the lack of materials. They created some of the cutest decorations I've ever seen!

Please don't forget we are celebrating Valentine's Day on Monday instead of Tuesday. The FYI came home yesterday with all the student names in the Early Learners age level. We will celebrate together so your child does need to have a card for everyone. Our combined party will be from 11:00 - 1:00 so please send 1/2 day children with a lunch and wait until 1:00 to pick them up. We will have other fun activities in the room during the morning.

Tuesday is our 100th day of school so our 100 party will be then. Don't forget to send your child with their project so they can present them to their classmates. I'll take pictures for the blog.

A small paper came home yesterday with our Scholastic Book ordering information. Paper flyers will not come home any more. It was becoming a huge paper waste and hurt our green thinking minds. We decided instead to send home the dates for allowing online orders and the names of the flyers available. I personally like to see the cover of a book before buying. Scholastic has this option when viewing titles. It helps me select appropriate books for the class.

All orders should be completed by 9:00 p.m. Friday, the 17th of February. Online orders are faster for Scholastic to fill and we generally get the books one week from me closing the order.
