We have had two very exciting days in a row. Yesterday was our Valentine celebration and today was the 100th day of school. Tomorrow will seem dull in comparison so we'll begin a new short unit on fairy tales and their cracked-up versions.
First let me thank every parent for their work in helping children write out valentine greetings and names. At the beginning of the year only a couple of my students could write their names. Yesterday, as children put their valentines into their friends' bags I notice almost every card had been signed by the children. Even when a child is fairly confident about writing their name they are often reluctant to try on a small space like a card. Thank you for encouraging and helping your children. You will never regret this I promise.
Although we have very little time together on Tuesdays, we spent our time showing off 100 Day projects. As a class they had already strung together 100 paper clip, glued 100 sticks to make a picture, glued 100 hearts on a counter page and strung 100 noodles on yarn. Today they brought in 100 beads on a necklace, 10 bags with 10 marshmallows in each, 100 pom pom cupcakes, 100 colored toothpicks stacked as a house, 100 m&ms glued to form the Community School logo, 100 dots on a beautiful ladybug and 100 things loved written on hearts. I am amazed at the creativity displayed by our children and their families. Thanks for being such an active part of this project. The children were so excited as they worked at home and did a super job at keeping their projects secret until today. And the wait was certainly worth it! Please take time to look at the pictures on the blog.
All Scholastic orders are due Friday evening. Please go to scholastic.com/bookclubs to place your orders. You can view multiple book flyers and pay with a credit/debit card. This saves a tremendous amount of paper and speeds up the arrival of books.
Monday is President's Day and there is no school.
Next week we will celebrate the end of Mardis Gras with a Fat Tuesday parade on the playground. We'll decorate for the occasion and explain its meaning but you can have some Mardis Gras fun here in town with the Marginal Arts Festival beginning on Saturday. Activities run through Tuesday and the full list can be found on marginalarts.com .
