The weather screams "Fall!" but it looked more like Spring in our room today with butterflies fluttering about and children trying to catch them in nets. Okay, it was a game Alora brought for Show & Share but it worked miracles on a wet, dreary day. The game is called Elefun and is an elephant's trunk that blows out butterflies. Can it get any more fun than that?

T is our new letter and the letter bag contained a toothbrush, a turkey, a spinning top, Tinker Toys, tape, a trumpet. a tea bag, a tomato slice (plastic), a triangle and a card with Timothy's name. Knowing they they would have already guessed the letter, I asked for the new letter's name. As one, they yelled "L!". Perhaps I over emphasized L. It will be interesting to see if they think the next letter is T.

Our T lesson of the day was to do a Tasty Treat Test. We had apple slices and pretzels which they ate and told me whether they were tasty or not. Next we dipped apples and pretzels in melted chocolate and caramel. After graphing the results we tallied up their answers and found their top-rated treat was - drum roll please - a plain apple slice. As a teacher, I am thrilled. As a chocoholic, I am confused.

With mixed emotions I moved us on to singing "Witches' Brew". I have items to throw into my cauldron to match the song but the children were less impressed with the brew items than my magic wand. I found it odd they were watching it so closely. Later I remembered telling them it had been known to do real magic in the past. Perhaps it will again this year!

Scholastic Book orders are due tomorrow by 9:00 p.m. online and by the end of the school day if doing a paper order. This month's selections are really fun so please look over the flyers. If you want to see what the other age level or the Leo (Spanish versions) flyers offer, go to scholastic.com/bookclubs and click on All Catalogs. You can place on order from any of them.
