The Bolivians are here! Each year we talk about their arrival but it really has no meaning until the first time our little friends walk into Spanish and meet them. At first they are intimidated but it only takes about two weeks for them to becomes friends and heroes. Today was our class' first meeting with the Bolivians and you should have seen their faces when they discovered Daniel speaks fluent Spanish! I have a feeling he is going to be very popular.

As a class we are currently focusing on a weekly letter and numeral recognition. In assessing the children I began to see a pattern. While this class can count out loud and count objects, they haven't yet learned the corresponding numerals. Just like learning letters, we will practice on recognizing numerals while having fun with them. I have numerous matching games I've made over the years so we'll be playing our way to learning!

With our buddies in Keri's class, we did a "T" activity with trees. The buddies took paper and crayons outside to trees and made bark rubbings. They also picked a corresponding leaf so we can later identify the trees.

Today our half day students also got to meet our buddies from Kim's class. They will now come to be with us on Fridays at 10:30. Since this was their first meeting we had them play together. They began in silence (our request) while Halloween music played and had to find a way to communicate. Where there is a will, there is a way and they found a way to play cooperatively.

Please look at this week's Quick Notes for our School Spirit activities next week. It's always fun to have these crazy days and the children love having their pictures taken. It all begins with crazy hats or hair on Monday. Let's see what your child comes up with for their head.
