I can hardly believe this beautiful weather after last weeks' rains! It seemed like a great day to learn outdoors so we spent some time outside examining leaves, crunching them, listening to the sound and finally, recording the sound for our listening Cd game. Once back inside I read the book "The Log Hotel" by Anne Schreiber that discusses the decay of logs and their eventual return to soil that nurtures new seedlings. The book mentions worms eat at the decayed wood to make soil which led to the question "How?". I said it and you will probably hear my explanation repeated at home. Worms poop soil. You can thank me later.

Karen brought in the new Tag Readers today to introduce them to the class. She has ordered books for each level but we only have four pointers so only four children could use them in the allotted time. Our Listening Center has been an area of numerous requests lately so I put the other four in headphones to listen to stories. This laid backed group was perfectly happy and I was very proud (to say nothing about relieved).

As part of our alternate activities Thursday, some of the children used bleeding tissue paper to make fall leaves. The results were beautiful and are now hanging from the ceiling Today those who could not do this last week did and several children chose to do another leaf. It's definitely Fall in this room!

Here's a list of upcoming events for the next two weeks:

Thursday, Oct 20 Scholastic Book orders are due
Monday, Oct. 24 "Good Night Moon" at Hollins College
Friday, Oct. 28 Jeters Farm This is our rescheduled field trip. We will
