Google has finally cooperated enough for me to post, even if it is with old dates! I will try to quickly cover last week's events along with the last three days.

Specials on the first day so the children got to meet Kim in music, Louise in Drama and Elena in Spanish. First day pictures were taken and the several journal pages were made.

We read the first book in the Skippyjon Jones series (called "Skippyjon Jones") which introduces the lovable Siamese boy kitten who pretends he is a Chihuahua named El Skippito. When he enters his closet he has wild adventures with his friends Los Chimichangos.

We also read/sang the book "I Ain't Gonna Paint No More" which is about a rather naughty boy who applies his paint to his body parts. In celebration of this great fun, we painted a person on the easel.

Our class will celebrate the 100th day of school this year. Every morning we add a fish to our poster fish bowl. The children predict the number of fish in the bowl that will be in the bowl after adding the day's fish. They discovered yesterday that adding one fish daily is the same as counting up one more number.

Yoga started with very basic moves last week. Sometimes the most difficult part of yoga is being quiet and focused but these are also some of the greatest benefits of yoga so we will meet the challenge! Today we worked on the balance poses of tree, airplane and star. It started with numerous "I can'ts" but they soon turned into smiles of achievement.

Our daily calendar is helping us learn to count past ten and learn the days of the week. We have a song that offers clues when trying to determine today, yesterday and tomorrow. You may have already heard the month said with a physical emphasis on the "_tember" (timber) part of September.

We have already started using our ribbon sticks and rhythm sticks to move with music. The children surprised me with their control of the ribbons when mirroring my movements.

Leader people were colored today in anticipation of starting our Daily Leader next week. A calendar will come home, along with a letter to explain our class Leader's jobs and "Show & Share".

We have now read the second Skippyjon Jones book called "the Big Bones". In this adventure El Skippito saves his friends from dinosauritos with his pickle breath - or may really be returning bones to a very large drooling dog. Irregardless on one's take on reality, he is an unlikely hero.

Let me take a moment to thank everybody for either showing up last night or letting me know they could not. Your enthusiasm is mirrored by your children and we appreciate you giving us some of your time so we can answer questions and disperse information.

Our first Scholastic Book flyers have been sent home. Parents wishing to order books can either send back the marked flyers with a check written to Scholastic or go online to order. First time online orders take a few extra moments to establish a parent account. After the first time, parents can use the class ID number (located on the upper left hand side of the letter) and log on to order. All orders are due Friday (Sept. 16) by 9:00 p.m..

Don't forget the Class Name Skits on Friday at 10:30. It only takes about 30 minutes but it is always fun to see what each class chose as a name and how they present it to the school.
