I am so proud of my class. In preparation for the play last week, we read the Laura Numeroff series of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" with other animals in the title. The children noticed that each book began and ended with the same words and that the featured animal ate something beginning with the same letter. I casually mentioned it might be fun to write own version of this book series. A few minutes later we had our title of "If You Give a Dog a Doughnut". This occurred on Friday in the few morning minutes we have together. Since we couldn't possibly write our book then I told them to think on it over the weekend.

They were ready this morning and asked when we could begin. It was fascinating to watch them banter around ideas. There were pros and cons and questions of where each thought could lead. In about 45 minutes they had written their book and I must say I am impressed with their work! You will get a chance to own their book because I printed off the pages and left space for each child to draw their illustrations. I made an additional copy and had Elise and Sierra from Keri's class draw about 8 pages of illustrations to give the children some ideas. Won't this make a great summer activity on those boring rainy days? Don't you love subtle hints?

Tomorrow we walk over to Hollin's University at 9:00 to rehearse for Celebration Night. Please have your child in appropriate walking shoes. Our class is working on a special surprise for that night and will wear their tie dyed t shirts. It will be a wonderful way to end their year. The evening will begin with the class sitting together. We will perform early in the program and then your child will come to sit with you. I hope everyone will be there for the fun.
