Where were those warm temperatures last week? At least yesterday reminded us that it is really spring and summer is just around the corner. Last night's weather reminds me more of the spring weather I experienced when living in Oklahoma! We are finishing up our African unit this week. The children have been making books about African animals and many finished yesterday. We also took time to prepare for conferences Thursday. Our room has a new look with our art table in place and new black shelves to hold toys. We haven't been able to paint in awhile so we broke in the new art table yesterday. It is painted a beautiful turquoise color and is lovely. I couldn't quite think what it was but something was missing, until yesterday. After my young artists had painted their masterpieces and moved them to the drying rack, they were dismayed that their paints had "messed up" our new table. I washed the table and there it was - the missing element. The table now has paint stains of purple, pink and blue and is PERFECT! It's a proper art table now. With our new room arrangement, we now have full access to the Play-Do and accessories. In celebration, I pulled the chairs off the tables this morning and the children set up their supplies faster than a bug hits a clean windshield. As they rolled, cut and flattened, I watched their delight as they played. As soon as they announced what they made they balled it up to begin again and I remembered it is the process of creating that brings children so much joy. The end result is usually quickly forgotten by them and left for the adults in their lives to enjoy. Somehow, I no longer saw cleaning up as a bother, but the ends to a wonderful means. Today's weather delayed our class pictures. We will try again tomorrow beginning at 9:00. Teena usually takes a "pretty" class photo and then a relaxed silly photo. You'll be able to choose which or both poses in a few weeks. Personally, I think this group's silly pose is going to be my favorite. Your child is bringing home a Strawberry Festival flyer today. It has the open volunteer spots on it. Everyone needs to pitch in for the festival to be successful so claim your hours right away. I made a copy for my son that "thought" he might be busy on Saturday. Now he can choose his hours from Thursday and Friday. You might want to leave your copy lying around when your in-laws drop by and maybe they'll take a hint and claim some time too. Thursday is Conference Day. Please try to bring your child along for the conference. I have told them this is their time to show you their work and then I will take a little time to brag about their progress. They seem to enjoy the idea of me telling what wonderful children they are. The schedule is below. Gracie 8:00 Bryan 10:00 Evalyn 8:30 Kris 10:30 Xan 9:00 Emma 2:30 Grace 9:30 Logan 4:00
