Okay, I'm going to try using this blog one more time before I totally give up! As several of you know I've had my share of frustrations with blogger.com in the last few years but yesterday it waited until I hit the "post" button to eat my blog! Somewhere in cyberspace I have a very clever blog about giraffes. So here goes my second, less clever attempt...

There cannot be anything more beautiful than the long, graceful neck or the tall, thin legs of a giraffe unless you consider their large, soft brown eyes. These gentle giants prey upon none and act as the watchdog for all animals around them. Any child that has been in my room knows my favorite animal is the giraffe and i was even fortunate enough once to enter the Giraffe House at the Oklahoma City Zoo to pet the baby giraffes. Even as we stood eye to eye, I knew given the chance I would take one home.

As I read off the facts about them, I was thrilled to see the awe this class held of them - or it was their 18 inch tongue that was so intriguing. No matter, they were impressed and ready to venture to the Safari Zoo in hopes to spy one up close. Perhaps we'll even get to watch their lovable, crazy run. I'll have a camera just in case!

Don't forget to pack your child a labeled water bottle with their snack and lunch. The current weather report predicts the rain will hold off until we are finished but do please send along a light jacket. The FYI with details is at the bottom of the blog page.

Let me catch you up on some other activities we have been doing in the classroom. We have been sorting beads, writing first and last names, working with short A and the -at word family and playing counting games with a spiffy number die within a die. All of this while learning about Africa. We also learned one African proverb that will help us as we go through life's challenges. You will find it at the end of this blog.

Please don't forget that we are collecting books to be resold and/or school supplies for the Refugee Resettlement Center. Celine A. from Middle School is heading up this drive and it will continue through the first week back from Spring Break.

The weather has been so beautiful lately that we have been having picnics and after lunch play outside. Although the temperature is supposed to drop back to a more normal 50's soon, this is a good time to consider the change of clothes your child has at school. All of the children have grown quite a bit this year so they may need larger clothes and their spare shoes may need to be a bigger size now. Just send in any clothes to change out in their book bags and we'll do the rest here.

When a mountain is in your path, do not sit at its foot and cry. Get up and climb it.
