We need to review letter shapes and letter sounds. We need to review initial consonant sounds, work on final consonant sounds and see if we could do both initial and final consonant sounds. There's the handwriting to practice, size comparisons to make and we want to play with addition. How can it all be done when each child needs some but not all of these, our class time is limited on Wednesdays and it's WARM outside? Today's answer was to have moving learning centers.

File games were pulled, laminated writing sheets were stacked and ready and letter shapes were positioned under the letter wall. Name cards told the children the areas they were to concentrate on and a timer provided the signal to move to a new spot. And then they were off.

I love a group that matures to a independent working level just so they can participate in a rotating activity day! This group is more than ready to move around and accomplish a task set before them. They did so well today we are going to try having more stations next week so only one child is positioned at each station. It requires a little extra work and can cause teacher's heads to head spin during the process, but it is a great method to see which concepts the children have individually learned and have fun.

Although we read every day I must share this book with you. Today I read an old Chinese folk tale to the children called "The Seven Brothers". These brothers look, talk and walk alike but each has a unique gift. Their gifts are seeing and hearing for 100 miles, great strength, legs that grow at will, an inability to burn, bones strong as iron and crying an ocean. The story relates how the seven brothers outwit an evil emperor "...whose whisper is like a thunderous clap" who would destroy a man (he thinks it's just one man) with so many talents. Please ask your child to tell you the rest of the story. They really enjoyed the style of writing we would relate to a folk tale but is new to them.
