Well, the weather outside is frightful but wearing our jammies is delightful! It turned out to be the perfect day for wearing warm, snugly PJs. And since it was so cold it was also the perfect day to watch "Happy Feet", snack on popcorn and sip hot chocolate.

I had forgotten just how great a movie "Happy Feet" was until today. I remembered there were three species of penguins involved and it delivered the message that we each have unique gifts. The message I had forgotten was the powerful impact humans have on the survival of animals. In this movie the penguins are beginning to starve as the fish disappear from the now polluted waters. The penguin, Happy Feet, finds a wonderfully creative way to communicate with the humans (dancing) and the humans clean up the waters and ban fishing around Antarctica. The tap dancing penguins were enough to make my day but a teachable lesson is always a good thing here at school!

You probably have already surmised we will be studying penguins and Antarctica. While we will learning facts about these delightful creatures and their barren homeland, we will also enjoy the antics of the fictional penguin, Tacky. The children love to hear Tacky's adventures and recite the last sentence of each book which is always the same. I bet your child can tell you by Wednesday evening.
