Now that Hanukkah is over, the classroom looks like a Christmas wonderland! The children decorated our Christmas tree yesterday and spent this morning making ornaments. We have snowmen that double as window clings or necklaces, decorated foam trees and glass balls painted on the inside. With all this cold weather it feels like the North Pole so I decided we would create our own Santa workshop. We aren't any warmer but our moods are much improved!

Yesterday brought the delivery of a new listening system i bought with our Scholastic Book points. We have a large collection of books with matching CDs and cassette tapes. My only problem was a player that no longer played cassettes and often wouldn't play CDs. I held my breath and inserted a CD which to my delight played for the four lucky wearers of the headphones. This morning I pulled out one of our old Walkman players, added batteries and again held my breath. This breath holding thing seems to be working well (wish I had known it as a child) because once again four children listened to a story. I was quite happy with our luck so I could hardly believe it when Michi walked in with a new CD/tape player. It must really be Christmas.

After lunch we usually play with toys until rest time. Today I went to YOUTUBE.com and pulled up a cute song called "Box of Rocks" to play for the class. It's the ultimate get-even sibling song. They weren't quite as impressed as I so I then pulled up "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas". As Emma and I sang along the others began to dance. The Chipmunks "Christmas Song" followed with even livelier dancing. The crowning glory of the music fest was the last selection of dogs barking "Rudolph". It was hard to tell if the song or their own dancing made them laugh more.

Tomorrow will bring more ornament making with their buddies. We made beaded ornaments for the vets at the VA last week and will work on two more projects this week. Tomorrow is also the last day to bring nonperishable food for the residents of Melrose Towers. I will deliver the food after school. We will continue to collect hats and mittens for the children at the Rescue Mission. I was in the Dollar Store last week and found some very nice sets.

I have been asked by several parents about next Friday. Many know that our level usually has a holiday workshop on the last day before Winter Break. We have decided after last year's surprise storm that we'll all make ornaments this week and next and have a low keyed day on the 17th. Our class will join Katlyn's and our buddies in having Pajama Day. We'll also drink hot chocolate, eat popcorn and watch "The Polar Express" (that's the low-key part). If Mother Nature wants to again bless us with the white stuff, we will be ready for a quick retreat from school.
