I want to begin by thanking everyone for their donations of food to Melrose Towers. Holly and I packed the back of my RAV4 full and put two full grocery bags in the seats. This was an amazing response for people in need. When I got to the Towers and they understood that I had more than a bag of groceries they pulled out a flatbed cart and came out to assist me. We filled the cart and creatively stacked food until my car was empty. The man pushing the cart had eyes as big as saucers and thanked me several times. I did make use a card the children had made during Buddy time to leave with the food so they would know who sent the food.

This week we have focused more on Christmas and the reason we celebrate it. I started from the beginning with the birth of Jesus. As the children tried to fill in the story for each other I got tickled when Santa entered the scene at Jesus' birth. I then had to fast forward many centuries to the story of St. Nicholas but their eyes told me they weren't convinced I knew what I was talking about. You might want to ask them why we celebrate Christmas. The answer could be very enlightening!

We have finished and started numerous ornaments and are working on a special surprise for parents. The children have worked very hard on their treasures and are anxious to bring them home.

Please watch the weather reports. Besides the bitter cold, they are now talking snow on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. School closings are listed on both channels 7 and 10, several radio stations and on the school phone and website. It may not be a problem but please keep an eye on the sky.

Friday will be our Pajama Day. Please send your child in the warm, snuggly pajamas or sleep clothes. They already have their sleep toys and blankets here so it isn't necessary to send those along. We will have a relaxing day with a movie, popcorn and hot chocolate with our buddies. I'll provide my cushions so the children really can snuggle down to watch "The Polar Express". If you need some time to kick back and relax, I'm sure we can make space for you too.
