You have to love a Show & Share that not only is fun but also teaches something. Logan brought a Match Box car ramp and a plastic zebra today. The zebra also had an information card with it which I read aloud. It was the greeting of other zebras that piqued their interest. Zebras must be very affectionate (or tired) because they greet each other by placing their heads on each other's backs. We practiced in the room until we felt we could greet any zebras we might meet. If your child places their head on your back this evening, first check your clothes for black and white stripes and next assume they are happy to see you.
We have very little time together on Tuesdays because of their Enrichment classes. In our limited time I showed them how to play two of our matching games. One is called "Clothesline" and clothing cards must be matched to hang on one's line until full. Today I taught them to match by color design on the clothing but I warned them there was more than one way to match the items. Tomorrow they will learn they can also match by clothing item.
Individual players may choose the way they want to match and the others need to figure out their choice to strategically block a win. The game has special bird cards that can pluck clothing off another's line. It took about 3 minutes into a game before the children realized the true value of these birds. How quickly they learn to plot their next moves!
