Our morning was filled with music fun. I got out several CDs of activity songs and we sang the "Three Little Pig Blues" and had a belly laugh (literally) with "The Laughing Song". The children laid on the floor with their heads on their neighbors belly and the giggling began. It almost impossible to not laugh when the belly your head is resting on is moving with laughter - especially if your teacher just tickled you! Our last song was the Archambault and Plummer version of "I Love the Mountains". They started with the old folk song and added verses of things children loved about the USA. I explained we could write our own version of things we loved and gave them the assignment to think of 1 or 2 things they loved while playing at fruit break. They could not, however, talk about this with anyone else.

After fruit break they came in ready to share. I was ready for Mommy and Daddy and pets, which I received, but I was surprised with some of the other creative thoughts the children had. They spent about 20 minutes not only telling me their ideas but WHY they loved these things. It was a wonderful exercise in expanding our language skills.

We had trouble making the last verse work but our buddies came in the nick of time. They threw around words until we liked the ending. We sang our new song together and went out to play. It would be ever sooooo wonderful if some artistic types made illustrations to help the children remember their song (strong hint!). Here it is:

Tomorrow we will go see our art show and then watch the dress rehearsal of "Cinderella". Since this is such a fun class we decided we would love to stay at Hollins tomorrow to fly kites and have a picnic lunch. We'll pull my little red wagon to hold our lunchboxes and kites. It will be warm so I'll bring extra water and I'll have my 2 kites. Any parents wishing to join us are welcome.

Friday is the BIG DAY! The children will need only their fruit break and nothing else. Please don't send tote bags or lunchboxes because the children will not have anywhere to store them during the show. Dismissal is from Hollins at 1:00.

Scholastic Book orders are due by tomorrow.
