Today was our last day with Cherry and I know the children will miss her creative "paper painting". Yesterday we actually tie dyed paper. The children made accordion folds (with less help than I would have thought) and then folded their long strip in flag style. This gave them three points to dip into three colors which bled together in the middle. Once unfolded they had a beautiful design in reds, oranges and pinks.
Kim's Math class came in to assist the children with the final step. I will say only that it involved weaving and the results are incredible!
Our letter of the week is S so today we made a squirrel sculpture. Before beginning I asked the class to name some S words we didn't see in our box. They came up with song, Saturday, Sunday, sat, silly, sunshine and squirrel. Alliteration with the letter S is so easy so I began to describe the steps in their sculpture with mostly S words. They stopped me several times to repeat all the S words I had just used. Their ears are becoming more tuned to hear specific sounds and they love picking them out. Maybe you could try a little alliteration at the supper table tonight and see how many words your child catches. You just might be amazed.
Our next conference is April 19 and I know several parents may have a conflict - especially our teachers. The current schedule is listed below. Please let me know ASAP if your scheduled time needs to be changed either to a different time or day. I will try to accommodate you if it's at all possible.
