Art with Cherry was very exciting this morning. We used thinned oil paint to marbleize paper. We put several spoonfuls of black or white paint in water and watched it float. The children then pulled a hair pick through the paint to create swirls. We then "floated" paper on top of the paint and water and let it pick up the majority of the color. The children swirled the pick again through the water to marbleize a lighter shade of the color. We ended up with black on white, gray on white, white on black and gray on white. It was magical each time we pulled up the paper to find a unique design. The children have convinced me to make a trip to Michael's and buy oil paint in several colors.

Tomorrow we will tie dye paper. I don't know what method Cherry will use but old clothes would be a safe bet on your child. I promise not to say a word if they wear the same clothes as today.

While the children were at their Specials I rearranged the Reading area and added a canopy. They didn't come back to the room until lunch and were surprised to find a colorful topping. Amidst the oohs and aahs, I was able to tell them it was called a canopy and we later discussed the class rules for its use. The tulle sides can flip over our book stand and toy shelf for rest time. I can't wait for our buddies to see it tomorrow!

Our walls are beginning to look bare as I take work down and send it home. The children have selected to have a Space unit next month and I need room on my walls for my large posters and pictures. My father is a retired NASA Aerospace Engineer (yes, a true rocket scientist). My sister works there still and does presentations for them. Between the two I have a large collection of early and current program information. Feel free to drop in once I have the room "decorated".
