If only I would have thought to bring the camera outside! The children had a blast playing in undisturbed snow. They rolled balls of snow until they needed adult help and made giant snowmen. They stacked small balls of snow for snow babies and snowballs whizzed by as they traveled towards the legs of friends involved in a snowball fight. Everything was as it should be and there I stood taking in the sights, wishing all of you could witness this scene of sheer joy. Surely it snows just for children to play in Nature!
Our buddies came today and we finished up our laced Valentines and began assembling flower Valentines. I cut three hearts and one circle for each. I then punched a hole near the heart points and in the middle of the circle. Push a Dum Dum lollipop through the center and you instantly have a flower. It is a bit of cutting but the children loved it and I'm sure the nursing home recipients will love them too.
As the children finished lunch they pulled out several favorite toys. Much as I thought, they eventually pulled out their new favorite game "Cookie Match". I listened in on their conversation while they set up the game. At first I heard "I'm first, then you." but it slowly evolved into "We'll go in a circle" and "It's your turn now." I found myself wondering who the lucky teacher was to have such a cooperative class and in a moment of epiphany I realized it was me. My, how they have grown from the normal "Me first" 3 and 4 year olds to considerate little people who make this world a better place!
Last week I told you a PBS film crew and Julie Newman were here to film our preschool in action. Julie (Zackery's mom) was doing a documentary on preschools in the valley and included us. It was on PBS last night and Holly caught it. She was glowing this morning telling me about it. It will be on again Sunday, Feb. 7 so try to view it. She said our class made the cut doing our color experiments. I hope my little brain remembers to watch it. Better yet, if anyone has the technology to record it, I know all of us in the E.L. level would love a copy.
Tomorrow looks good so far but keep an eye on the weather. I don't yet know what happens if the weather is too risky for conferences on Friday. I'm sure Holly will tell us the protocol soon.
