Welcome to the 87th day of school. We teachers have been keep a count of the days from the first day but our class jumped in on the count in the sixties (We were busy reading 100 books). Now that we are so close to the 100th day it's time to begin making plans. If we don't miss any school due to inclement weather then my calculations have Feb. 18 as the 100th day. We don't count Conference Day and President's Day since the children are not at school. I have been encouraging the children to think of ways to express the number 100 to bring in on that day. They have come up with great ideas like gluing 100 Cheerios on a paper or using masking tape to male the number 100. I would like everyone to have some form of the number 100 to show their classmates so please help your child with this project. They are so creative i can't wait to see what transpires.

Although the sun refused to cooperate and come from behind the clouds, we played with color paddles outside. I've had these several years but this is the first class that really has shown a great interest in color. Each ring has 6 paddles of colors and when two or more are combined, they make a new color. Sunlight is needed to get the full effect so I did the next best thing and pulled out my flashlight. Naturally the batteries died midway but the children were very understanding and suggested I leave them out for use on a sunny day.

I also have color palettes on transparency paper. One sheet has only red while the other two have blue or yellow. When they are stacked they create eight colors. This needed little light so it was far more impressive. I also brought out a new game that I bought several years ago but waited for the right group of children.

It is a butterfly building game. Each child has an unadorned butterfly and receives a card with three pictures of wing adornment. They must roll a die in hopes of it landing on the correct color or pattern of adornment to add to their butterfly. The first to complete their butterfly wins. We took the competition out by rotating other children in as a person completed their butterfly. Everyone got to play and finish and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This afternoon we got to meet with our Reading Buddies. Lena's class wanted to do the reading this week so each child selected a book they could read and paired up with one of ours. It must have been fun because we had to break them up to our room at rest time. It great to see children of different ages having fun together.
