The snow is melting! I never in my life thought I would be happy to say this but after almost 4 weeks, I am ecstatic! Tomorrow will feel balmy after the arctic weather we've endured. The down side to this will be the mud and wet mulch that follows. Please send boots with your child and we'll do our best to keep their clothes reasonably clean.

This morning I pulled out my 100 counting chart and told the children this was our 77th day of school. We counted to 77 and looked at how few days were left before we reached 100. Then I announced we would be having a party on that day. Cheers followed and they offered numerous suggestions on how we could celebrate. Oh, my little party animals do like to have fun!

We decided to go out for fruit break play despite the lingering cold. To our great delight, we discovered it was rather "warm" in the sun. It felt good to be outdoors. Music followed and I know Kim appreciated them having a chance to run off some excess energy.

Afterwards, we worked again on our sight words and finding our -at words. When I pulled the letter T out to add to -at, we again talked about tat was not commonly used but a real word meaning a method of making lace. Chloe piped to add that "tat" is also a word meaning tattoo. Silly me, what was I thinking leaving it out?

Our buddies came in and we continued our collage work. Two pieces we completed and they are incredible! I took pictures but I will wait until the rest of the art is completed next week to add them to our blog.

We discussed Greg Mortenson and his Pennies for Peace fund raiser to support building schools in the poor villages in the Middle East at our faculty meeting yesterday. He has been a strong supporter for educating girls too in these villages. Community School is going to start collecting pennies for this worthy project which is timely since our class has continued to bring in their change. I have a Peace Ball which our class will put their change in. I'll try to keep you updated on our progress.
