The first day of the week brought some "firsts" with it. I opened the sensory table up for a first play with the rice/sand mixture. It was messy and caused a few sneezes but they had a great time.

We also had a first day of individual and small group activity centers. As the children finished an activity they put slips of paper with their names on them in a container so I could go back through later and see who finished which centers. Not only do they reinforce learned skills but build independent work habits. This was a stellar plan until clean-up time. All my tidy little friends decided to put those pesky pieces of paper in their proper containers. Ah, "...the plans of mice and men".

I have several children whose progress has made it necessary for me to do re-assessment so don't be surprised if your child tells you we played together today. The development of children moves at its own rate and often a child will surge ahead unexpectedly. The children see this as play time with me and know they get to show how much they've learned. When I was a child, having to be alone with the teacher meant one thing - trouble! So I find it amusing when the children beg to be next.

I have only 5 Conference forms that have been returned. Please return those by Friday. If you are undecided, just let me know so I can keep a time open.
