I have been confused all day about which day of the week, Monday or Tuesday, it truly is. Fortunately, our class knows and patiently keeps me on track. Those Monday holidays can really throw a person off!

Today I introduced the letter D. Our box contained a dinosaur (a small, plastic one), a dog, a dime, one dollar and a duck. They knew by the second object the letter was D. When asked to think of D words, they gave me doll, day, doughnut, dad, drink and David. It's hard to believe that when I introduced the first letter they really struggled to think of any words beginning with L. What a difference 5 months makes in a child's development.

Tuesday is the day of Enrichment so I had very little time with my class but we did manage to get in a game before rest time. I had the children remove their shoes and a least one sock. They covered their eyes while I stroked their foot with either a feather, a cotton ball or a toothpick. I was sure the cotton ball and feather would be easily confused but they scored a 100! Just to be sure it wasn't a fluke I strokes each child's foot with two of the objects but they still could not be fooled. At least I know the sensory input from their feet is accurate and finely tuned. Hmm... maybe I will test their hands with more challenging objects.

Your child will bring home either a bread bag or a newspaper bag. These are for compost. Just add compost until the bag is full and then send it back to school. Since the bags have already been used before, we are actually recycling them with this usage and can be guilt free when I discard them. I will continue to collect newspaper bags and bread bags (you are welcome to also) for compost use rather than the new Ziplock bags we used earlier in the year.

Scholastic book orders are due today. If you forgot to send in an order you can still order online. I will hit the final order button late tonight.

Friday we will go to Hollins College to watch "Lyle, Lyle Crocodile". I recently purchased the book so we'll read it before the play and compare the two later. We have been able to go to Hollins and watch their Drama department put on children's plays for the last several years. They tell us at Hollins they like our children to come because they know how to be a good audience and ask intelligent questions. What can I say?
