We were a small group today with three children out but we carried forth with our activities. I had three activities planned this morning that to the children were Holiday crafts but to a teacher had a goal in mind! I had a doctor's appointment so a former C.S. teacher, Anna Beebe, came in to sub and do the activities. Anna Beebe is a math teacher so she knew exactly what my intentions were.
The first craft was to make a beaded candy cane but a pattern was required. The children could choose whether to use two or three colors and any number of beads to make their pattern. I am thrilled to say no two are alike.
The second craft was started by several on Friday. The children had to use five different sized beads and make an icicle. They had directions for bead placement but they did have to differentiate between the sizes. These will come home today.
The third activity will happen tomorrow because I always plan more than can actually be accomplished. Sorry, but I was raised by a teacher who believed in aiming high!
POP collected money from the boxes to buy gifts for our Angel Tree people. Unfortunately the giving is down by 60% this year so they decided to extend the time for giving until the end of this week. I know it's been a hard year - I have one grown child living at home, another moving home and one in college - but if we all dig just a little bit deeper, together we can make a difference in someone's life.
Scholastic orders are due today. You can still order online but I request you do so by 5:00 so I'll have time to put the order in tonight.
I have been asked about drivers for Thursday and help for Friday. As always, the parents in our room have stepped up and filled the voids. We have enough drivers that Julie won't have to drive on her day off and she is very grateful. We also have plenty of help for Friday and I am very grateful!
By the way , our book count is now up to 198. The children convinced Anna Beebe to read to them while I was gone. These are very smart children because they knew they were very close to their goal. We were hoping for 100 books by Friday (the 18th) originally. When they passed that goal they raised it to 200 by Friday. It will be no problem to reach it by tomorrow and I am so proud of their enthusiasm and your willingness to participate. Two needy classrooms will now receive 100 books each. Doesn't it feel good?
