Today was the big day. We read our 200th book! The children came in excited knowing it would have to happen today and when it did they cheered and clapped. The final book was "Babar and Father Christmas".
The book title lead to a discussion about the different names for Santa Claus in different countries. As one thing lead to another I began to wonder if Laura Numeroff was a preschool teacher when she began writing "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". If not, surely she was spending time in a class and observed the conversations of the very young.
The children have missed their Tuesday Enrichment classes for two weeks so they were very ready to see their teachers. Both Julie and Elena had subs because of other school related activities but they still had class.
After lunch I painted more hands (several are stained pink) to add to their angel hand prints. They drew their own faces and hair. It is amazing the wide range of eye colors in this room. My optometrist would find it very interesting.
Instead of reading a book before Quiet Rest, I played a CD of Frog and Toad stories from the " Wind in the Willows" book. I want them to know a bit of what they will be seeing Thursday at the play "Frog and Toad". We are really looking forward to the play. The children have been asking if there will be big people or children on stage and I have been answering with "both". I only hope I'm right!
