I guess winter is here to stay. The snow was quite beautiful Saturday but for some reason I was sure Monday would bring much warmer temperatures. How disappointing.

Let me first thank everyone for showing up at B&N Saturday. The children did a marvelous job and I couldn't be prouder. I, like you, was very disappointed B&N didn't have my book list available. The manager has sent me a note of apology and will print out my list. I 'm not leaving anything to chance and have copied the list for you from my computer. The fund raiser goes on all week and you can go back to the store, call in an order to the store and they'll get it out for you or go online and order books. Just be sure to mention our school and either give them the code (449884) or your vouchers.

Several parents who forgot their cameras have expressed interest in having photos and/or copies of movies. If you took still photos (as I did) or used your camcorder, and don't mind sharing, I can merge several onto a single DVD and make copies for everyone.

Today was Xan's fourth birthday. I believe his classmates were as excited as he was and continued wishing him a "Happy Birthday!" until they went out for recess. Kim brought in a wonderful fresh fruit snack for the class. This is one fruit eating group!

We began learning about Hanukkah today. I showed them a menorah (and yes, Nora's name is in the middle of that word) last week and today briefly talked about the Maccabees and the miracle of the oil lasting eight days instead of one. We then read my favorite Hanukkah book about a ninety-seven year old woman who mistakes a bear for her rabbi and feeds him potato latkes. It's called the "The Chanukkah Guest" and is by Eric A. Kimmel.

Before quiet rest I read a lovely story about pigs who were in a panic over their lack of
Christmas funds. An angel appears to them and tells them to use what they already have and make gifts and decorations. It becomes a lesson on giving is about thinking of others and not the amount of money spent. It is "Angel Pig" by Jan L. Waldron.

Our book count is progressing very well. Currently Team Peyton is in the lead with 42 books and Team Eli has 28. Since I order the books for Our class and Tulie's, we have been given permission to read for both teams. So if we read 200 books then 100 books will be donated to two different needy classes. At this rate it will be no problem!

We worked more on Christmas decorations and a Christmas surprise for parents.

Tomorrow we walk to Hollins to watch the Jack Tales Players from Ferrum College. Please remember to put your child in warm clothing and coat. Their walking pace isn't really fast enough to get their bodies warm so we have to rely on their clothing.

You will receive the flyers from the December catalogs. We encourage you to buy first from Barnes & Noble BUT if you find something in the flyers feel free to order. I will be using the two express to insure the books arrive in time.
