Wow, I guess everyone remembered to jump right out of bed when first called because my entire class was on time for Music this morning! Thank you on behalf of Kim and myself. They also had Spanish with their Seminar friends.

After Spanish we had morning circle. Logan was our leader today. I watched silently to see if the class would truly follow their leader on the calendar. They had to do it twice but they counted together and said the month (along with an appropriate turkey gobble). When it came to the "Days of the Week" song I knew they would follow Nora's voice but I was surprised when Logan took over finding today, yesterday and tomorrow. I called on children but he recognized each day and placed the correct marker by each. One day they need you for everything and in a flash they become independent beings!

We had both Logan's and Chloe's Show & Share. Logan brought the ABC Amtrak book which fascinated everyone. Chloe had a wooden puzzle clock with 12 shapes the children now know. It even had a hexagon and a trapezoid. Two young ladies from Hollins were in our room to do some cutting for teachers and were amazed at the shapes the class recognized.

The children noticed I had put some pictures of people in strange garb on our bulletin board. They kept asking about them but I put the class off until after Show & Share. I then pulled out two books, one about Pilgrims and one about Squanto and told them the story of daring people sailing across the ocean in 1621. The children could not imagine them arriving in a place with no cities, stores or homes. I told them that many Pilgrims died during the first winter and in the Spring a Wompanoag named Squanto arrived in the village and taught them how to grow crops, harvest cranberries, fish and hunt. I told them of the cooperation between the nearest Indian village and the Pilgrims and of a very rich harvest in the fall. It was then they realized I was telling them the story of the first Thanksgiving. Xan sure was happy to hear the first Thanksgiving had cranberries just like we do today. Maybe your child can share the story with you tonight.

I have a few reminders for next week:
Scholastic Book orders are due Tuesday, Nov.11.
Fall Open House is Wednesday and Thursday. It's not too late for your friends
to call in a reservation. Be sure you fill out a referral form from the office
just in case they enroll their child. It will save you money on tuition!

Have a great weekend!
