Well the weather certainly made this an exciting day. We began with inside play until circle time when Chloe's Show &Share arrived to visit. Her dog, Faith, was a big hit with the children and I believe she liked being with them as well. The calendar followed and we just had to sing "I Never Go to Work". Brandon then brought out his Show & Share which was a weighted bird that balanced on the tip of its wing.

Next I brought out a booklet I made for them of W words. We went through the words and found several we didn't think of yesterday. An early fruit break gave the children more time for dress up play and huge art creations.

Since we have been talking about the Pilgrims and the Wompanoags, I thought this might be a fun time to introduce the class to some Native American sign (as in pictures) language. I showed them about 20 symbols and told them their meanings. Many are easily understood but several made the children think a bit. I have these symbols on two sets of feathers which I set at two of the tables. While I worked with individual children on their bags, the others took turns making messages for each other to decode.

The rain stopped for recess so the children ran out the door. All was going well when a cloud burst surprised everyone. No bell was needed for the children to run back to the rooms. Their coats and shoes were so wet I shook everything off before they entered the room and several had to change into dry pants and socks. I really hadn't thought of this as a reason to keep spare clothes at school but Mother Nature taught us all a lesson today.

We ate lunch but since their play time was shortened outside they needed a little something special to make their day better. I pulled out my tepee which I explained the Womponoags did not live in but Plains Indians often used them like mobile homes.
This was all they needed to be their usual excited selves. If only all of life's downers could be so easily fixed!
