The excitement of the Thanksgiving holiday is building and most of our activities will focus on it this week. We began with our calendar and Xan as our leader. He went to Virginia Beach over the weekend and came back with a partial shell with a lovely nacre on the inside. I explained to the class that buttons were once made of nacre (I have my Grandmother's lucky button strand). He also had small pamphlets for his classmates on safe seafood consumption. It is valuable information if you are a seafood lover.

Last week we explored the picture language of Native Americans so this morning I wrote a message to the class. They later had to translate the message and I was surprised at how many picture signs they remembered. I will have to write a more complicated one for tomorrow.

Today we drew from a bowl to see which children would be Pilgrims and which would be Wompanoags. We then made the appropriate hats and feathered headbands. The headbands weren't dry but the Pilgrims were able to wear their hats when the Early Learners gathered together. We asked them to share their individual contributions to
make a Friendship mix for Wednesday's Fruit Break.

After lunch we had yoga workout that I began with the Tai Chi movement called "Bow and Arrow". It seemed appropriate with our discussions of how the Wompanoags lived.
Like Yoga it is slow and quiet but it differs in continual movement. Maybe you can get your child to show it to you.

Tomorrow is PAJAMA DAY!! Can you tell we're all excited? Please allow your child to wear pajamas but be aware we will play outside if the weather is better than today. They will need their shoes. We also are asking them to bring their favorite book, stuffed animal and/or blanket. We are really going to focus on the books and try to read them all.

On Wednesday your child will not need their bag, notebook or Fruit Break. They will eat their Friendship mix and around 11:00 we will walk over to Hollins with our Upper Elementary buddies. If it is raining (God forbid!) we will bus them over. The Art Show is open at 11:00 for viewing but if you want to wait and view it with your child, we expect to arrive around 11:20.

Lunch is served at noon and families sit together. I have found in the past this is a great time to get to know the families of your child's friends so don't hesitate to sit with people that may be strangers to you but not your child. You probably have more in common then you realize. Any parents that cannot make it to the luncheon needn't worry. Your child will be my child for the meal and I'll be sure they have plenty to eat. Dismissal is 1:00 from Hollins.

If you need more details on the Art Show and luncheon you can refer back to last Tuesday's Quick Notes or look at tomorrow's.
