Oh dear, it has begun. Our class is starting to get sick. So far it seems to be the standard cold but with their hand washing diligence it seems a bit cruel. Please keep a close eye on your child and let me know of any changes in their health.

Today I opened my Native American discovery box. In it are items commonly used by northern Indians like the Wompanoags. I have a rabbit pelt, some sheep skin and the crown of a deer's head with antlers still attached. We talked about how nothing was wasted when an animal was killed. The meat was eaten, the skin became clothing and bedding, muscle tissue became sewing thread, and antlers became digging tools and needles. I have turkey feathers, braided sweet grass to ward evil spirits and arrowheads fashioned by my brother-in-law in Oklahoma. I also have Pilgrim and Wompanoag paper dolls with appropriate clothing.

Music, Spanish and Drama took up most of the morning. Rowan was our leader so we held off lunch for a bit and had Show & Share. He brought pictures from his recent trip to Disney World. The children were totally fascinated and proved once again there is nothing more exciting than pictures from Disney World!

Before quiet rest I read another Babar book. This one is called "Babar's Mystery" which led to a discussion of the word's meaning. Babar and his children are good detectives it seems and once again prevailed.

Our annual all-school Thanksgiving Luncheon will soon be here. It is held at Hollin's College where we have an art show from 11:00-1:00 and lunch from noon-1:00. The children's art work is displayed on the second floor of the Moody Center and we eat on the first floor. Early Learner parents are asked to bring 1 entree and 1 side dish and 2 containers of any nonperishable food for the Salvation Army food drive. We dismiss from the Moody Center at 1:00.

Tomorrow is the deadline for ordering Scholastic books. You can order online as late as tomorrow night.
