What a gorgeous day! We literally went from heavy coats to short sleeves today. The children were too funny as they shed their coats and hats like a snake shedding its skin.
Our morning began with circle time and the calendar. Emma was our leader and brought an old fashioned jumping toy. She squeezed two poles at the bottom and the Tweety Bird at the top jumped and flipped. The class was fascinated by this simple toy. Next we finished up several projects and went out for fruit break play - minus one layer of clothes.
Wednesday is our special music day. They came back singing about bats. Perhaps you can get your child to sing to you.
We reviewed the more common shapes and learned a few definitions to distinguish between squares and rectangles. And in case your Geometry teacher failed to inform you, an oval is a circle that got squished. I introduced hexagon, pentagon, octagon and the always fun to say, trapezoid! We will be discussing these for the next few weeks so don't be surprised if your child suddenly yells out a shape name. We were able to find most of the shapes within our room.
It was "Buddy Day" with Kim's class. I'm not sure which class (or teacher) was more excited. The last we met together the buddies painted each other's arms and made tree trunks. Today I put out pots of paint in red, orange, yellow, green and maroon. They dipped their fingers in the paint and danced around the trees to make Fall leaves. It was fun to watch the teams of buddies encourage and tease each other as they worked together. Have you ever watched an older child wash the hands of a younger child? Let's just say their intentions are good. When all the pictures are dry we'll hang them together in buddy groups.
Our yoga time has really expanded as the children have learned poses. This week we learned the fish pose and the pretzel. The fish pose is a bit awkward but several went into it gracefully and easily. They never let me forget a pose, even the more demanding ones, but our time is limited. Today I had to explain for the first time that we now know too many poses to do them all each time. It was a proud moment.
Next Monday is our trip to Jeter Farm. We have reserved the school activity bus which seats 14 in five-point harnesses. Christina Clark and the Worleys have told me they will drive. This covers 20 and Tulie and I can cover another 6. If you are planning on driving your child and going as a family please let us know very soon so we can make our driving plans. We will cover the cost of drivers transporting other children and it would be helpful to Katlyn if either Tulie or I could ride in the bus with her.
