Friday was so busy, I never quite got to the blog. I apologize to our loyal readers (and thank you for reading!).
The morning began with Music and Spanish. After fruit break play, my little friends came back in for morning circle and "Show and Share". Emma was our leader and brought a bride doll in a box that had been her mother's. The children were fascinated. I mentioned the clothes looked as though someone handmade them. The next question was whether the doll was from the U.S. or a foreign country. This question greatly intrigued them and she has been asked to inquire further. No stone is left unturned with this class.
I pulled out my letter shapes next to introduce them to the children. There are bags containing long straights, short straights, large curves and small curves. With these four shapes we can make all the uppercase letters and most of the lowercase letters. The shapes also help teach the directionality of individual letters. Did I mention they are also lots of fun? Since I have only introduced the letter L it was a short lesson. They are anticipating having a bag of shapes with their name on it and perhaps keeping them at the end of the year. I told them time would tell.
A shopping trip to Sam's the night before yielded new Potato Head outfits which I introduced to the class. We were going to also watercolor paint more tissue paper leaves so these two activities were a wonderful combination keeping everyone busy and happy. The leaves they painted last week are now hanging from a fishing line across the ceiling but we needed more to make it look like leaves were falling on our heads. It is amazing to see how much more creative and accurate the children were on the second round. They had a better idea how to control the eyedroppers and where to put their paint. These leaves will be beautiful!
Please remember, there is no school for children on Monday. We will be in a workshop (at the school) and then will spend the afternoon fine tuning our plans for Fall Festival. We now have all the drivers we need for Jeter Farm. I want to thank my parents for stepping up so quickly to volunteer. We're going to have a great time and it's always more fun when parents can be a part of it. Charge up those camera batteries, you're going to want to use them!
The $10 fee for Fall Festival does need to be turned in Monday to me. It will cover your child's fee to Jeter Farm and supplies for Thursday's celebration on campus. Call or e-mail me if you have any questions.
