I can't wait to see our class' pictures. The children not only were dressed so very cute but were excited to pose, even before they knew about the "Prize Box"!

Today I introduced our first letter. I brought out the special Letter Box and began pulling objects out. The children quickly guessed the objects but could not identify the letter. This is not unusual in the beginning even for children who know most of their letters. It is almost a "backwards" way to think of letters when you must identify them by sounds. Much to their amazement, Logan's picture was in the box and then they realized the letter must be L. "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt" was in the box and the children raised their hands every time they heard an L word. I showed them the upper and lowercase letters on the board and with my felt letter shape makers. We then learned the ASL sign for L and the Lightening pose in yoga. Friday they water colored leaves which were dry today and ready for hanging.

We will make a craft later in the week and the children have asked for a scavenger hunt of L words. Who needs teacher books when they have such a creative class? I do love to use children's ideas and give them some ownership in their education.

Last Friday Holly came in after lunch and read "Whose Garden Is It?" and then did yoga with us. The children loved having her here.

After rest time on Friday the weather was too wet for outside time so I began reading the first of the series of the Babar stories. We finished the book today. I loved these books by Jean De Brunhoff as a child. They have become difficult to find but my husband found "The Story of Babar" in the American University bookstore last weekend. I own just one other book so please if you find one around here, let me know so I can buy it for our class. The stories are beautiful written!

We were finally able to confirm with Jeter's Farm today to take our Fall Festival field trip there on Wednesday Oct. 14. We will need parent drivers but we are asking for parents who can transport at least three children (in their car seats) first. We will pay the fee for parent drivers. Thursday we will stay on campus and have a full day of fun activities. We will need a few parents to help but we realize time off from work needs to be kept to a minimum. You will soon receive more information on all our plans.

I have had several inquiries about Quick Notes. They are online but if you are not receiving notification please e-mail Carissa ( from our website).
