We have had quite a day of wacky hats, pajamas and sleep toys, books, a dog and painting.  The children were so tickled with each others pajamas and hats.  I had several spare hats which quickly became part of today's wardrobes.  Pictures just had to be taken so we could share the fun.

Katlyn had the new animated version of "The Cat in the Hat" and hosted almost all of the Boxwoods.  We snacked on popcorn and laughed out loud at the silly songs added to this video.  I am usually a purist with books made into film but I must admit I found this version delightful.

Keri brought her dog Cozette for a visit today which naturally means I insisted she come to our room too.  She got oohs and aahs and then some much appreciated rubs and hugs.  As Dawson bent over to rub his face by hers we all noticed their hair (fur) were exactly the same color!  We asked him if they were brother and sister which made him giggle.  The pictures say it all.

We have been reading and keeping track of our books in here to add to the school total.  We are hoping to read 1000 books as a school and a s a class have already 23 books to that count.  Dawson brought in a CD with "The Lost Stories of Dr. Seuss" today and helped us add to our count.  These were stories familiar to me but I was the child of a school teacher who was a huge Dr. Seuss fan.

Katrina's class is focusing on Read Across America and are reading to classes on Fridays.  Leah and Archer came in to read to us this afternoon.  We could tell they had been practicing because their intonation, character voices and remembering to show the pictures was wonderful.  Many thanks to Katrina for working so hard with her class.

Paint has  been the subject of great study in our room lately.  I happened to read that oil paint could be made by mixing tempra paint with vegetable oil.  You can mix it thin enough to float on water without using paint thinner (thus making it safer in a preschool classroom).  We found the smell to be a bit unpleasant so we next tried baby oil.  The smell is wonderful but these mad scientist are curious about other options.  I plan to bring in olive oil but would appreciate any other suggestions.
The best part about our experiments is the wild, mad scientist laugh we use as we mix our concoctions.  It's something right out of "Young Frankenstein"!

Today we took a little break from our oil paints to do some marble painting.  Marbles are huge fun at this age but even I underestimated the pleasure this class would take in rolling marbles through paint and on paper.  Almost everyone got to paint but already the others are asking for another turn.

I have heard from several families about the Lorax Project and their child's progress.  Please don't forget to let me know your child's pledge amounts and their weekly exercise totals.  Recess and Fruit Break play also count so you can add up to 1 hour per school day.  Even when the weather is inclimate, we dance, do yoga and move inside.  If you are planning to get pledges this weekend, it seems fair to add your child's exercise from this week.  I have been asked about donations in lieu of pledges and this is certainly fine.  All donations are tax deductible.

Don't forget about the Early Learner and Lower Elementary Information Sessions next Tuesday evening.  I encourage everyone to come if your child is returning to C.S. next year.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call or e-mail me.

Have a great weekend!
