Puppets, puppets, puppets.  We are puppet crazy here after reading "If You Give a Moose a Muffin".  The moose remembers the puppets his grandmother used to make and requests old socks to make puppets.  This inspired the children to play with our puppets and create shows.  As if it were planned, Keri's class came to borrow puppets for the puppet show they were writing.  Further inspired, my little Sleeping Learners began making their own puppets with construction paper and popsicle sticks.  Perhaps you have seen a few that have come home , or have noticed glued sticks in our room.  The point is that while reading a story the children picked up one small action in the plot and  let their imaginations take them to a new, creative place!  This is literature doing its job.

We also have read "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" and graphed our favorite flavors of pancakes.  Next we  will read "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake".   I can't wait to see if my plans will be put to use or if once again the children lead us to a new area of study.  When I was a new to Community School it made my head spin and took away my breath every time my lesson take a twist and we ended up going in a different direction.  Since then I have learned to go along on this journey, pull out new materials on the spot and run to the computer to google the answer to a question.  It still takes my breath away.

I have all the questionnaires back now and have decided the best course of action may be to continue to blog our activities but to post pictures on our new facebook account.  For those without facebook accounts, you will receive a CD at the end of the year with all of our pictures.  Our account is private and can only be accessed by me "friending" you.  Look for RuthAnn Hannah (my first two names must be written as one to find me)on facebook and make a request.  I promise to "friend" all my parents.  If you have grandparents or special friends you also want to be on the friend list, have them make their request AND tell me who they are so I don't ignore them.  You will get notifications of both the blog and facebook additions.  Let's give this a try and see if it works.
