"Ooh gross!" said Daniel as we dipped our hands into our now topless pumpkins. First we looked at the pumpkins inside and out. Next we listened to the pumpkins and heard nothing. I asked them to wait to taste the pumpkins so we smelled them. It reminded us of the pumpkin field at Jeter's Farm. Next we put our hands deep within the pumpkins and found a stringy, slimy glob with seeds attached. Daniel was right, it was gross but it was the fun kind of gross where you make a face and continue.

We pulled out all of the stringy mass with seeds and set them aside for today's project. The pumpkins went home with me to be cooked for next week's project. When all was done the room smelled like the Great Pumpkin should be visiting soon.

Today we used our Buddy time with Keri's class to season and bake the pumpkin seeds.
We coated half with butter, cinnamon and sugar and the other half with butter, salt and pepper. Keri baked them and we did a taste test at lunch. Usually I hear the cinnamon is the favorite but this group preferred the salt and pepper (Don't forget they also preferred plain apples over chocolate dipped pretzels!). Andre suggested I try the two together and I must admit it had that nice sweet/salty combination.

We have been working on our Thanksgiving Art Show projects. It is a secret until the 23rd but I just have to brag a bit. To make their piece they have to have several body parts painted and be very careful not to smudge or touch their paper in the wrong place. This is a tall order for 3 -5 year olds but they've done a wonderful job!

Sharon went to the national convention for Early Learner Educators last week and brought home some new and fun ideas. Today our class went down to her room and learned the Karate Alphabet. This very physical form of learning the alphabet focuses on the lowercase letters. For every letter that stays within the lowercase you punched straight out. Letters rising into the uppercase get a fist in the air and letters falling below the lowercase get a karate kick. Try doing this with your child. The faster you go the more fun it is. I know Sharon and I had a blast - oh, and the children liked it too.
