My little friends have been very busy enjoying this season of colors. They have colored leaves with crayons for me to melt, gathered leaves, drawn numerous "leaf" pictures and played "leaf pile" over and over! We haven't talked much about tomorrow's activities so each event will be a surprise for them. For those coming to help with the activities, we will begin after fruit break play (10:30) but feel free to come earlier.

Our Jeter's Farm field trip is weather dependent. Hopefully we'll know enough about Thursday's weather by tomorrow afternoon that we can make a decision about whether to go or postpone. This has happened in the past and I have found the Jeter's family to be very generous about changes due to weather.

We have been trying to use all our senses and several weeks ago played a listening Bingo game. Yesterday we were able to start recording our own sounds for others to guess. Our class recorded about 10 sounds and then we sent the recorder to Sharon's class. Sharon and I may add a few surprises before handing it off to Karen who will make CDs for us. The children can hardly wait to play their CDs for their buddies and have them guess the sounds.

Singing is a natural part of childhood and creating one's own songs somehow just "happens" in this room. We listened to a Jim Gill's recording of the old Russian folk song "May There Always be Sunshine". In this recording he explains that he asked many children what they wanted there to always be in the world and from their answers added three more verses to the song. After listening a few times to the song, we came up with our own three new verses. I hope to record the class singing it next week. I'll try to add it to the blog and have Karen burn copies for each child. You never know who's out there looking for new talent. Here are the three new verses. See if you can guess which line(s) your child added.

May there always be...

school, movies, numbers, Spiderman
waffles, brothers, sisters, costumes
crayons, pictures, scotch tape, trees
