We are on day two of "Leader Day" and "Show and Share" and all is going very well. Alora brought her fishing pole and plastic worms yesterday and had the class completely enthralled. After looking at her fish picture and feeling the worms, we went outside to cast. I casted her line out to the bushes and she began reeling in the "big fish". We cheered and helped her pull while she giggled. The small plastic fish on the end of her line may as well have been a 100 lb. tuna for all our celebrating. Isn't it amazing how an everyday item to adults can inspire so much fun for children?

The fun continued today when Daniel brought Chewie the Monkey. Chewie is especially soft with a long tail and a friendly face. What the children noticed, however, was his belly button marked with an X. This reminded Daniel that he really liked the "Belly Button Song" we did the other day so out came the CD. Some dancing and belly rubbing made the world a little better. Chewie wasn't quite ready to return to the book bag so he sat in my chair observing his new surroundings.

Our Wise Owl buddies came in for a game of Listening Bingo. Today's game features farm sounds. Ducks and geese can be hard to distinguish between when one's experiences with both are limited to occasional park outings.

We also had our first Buddy Day with Keri's class. The children paired up with their new buddy(buddies) for the year and had some play time together. The faces were familiar from playing outside but today they learned each other's names and a little something about them.

Our class is preparing for an art project using small cut pieces of paper. I could cut the paper myself but wht not sneak in a little fine motor assessment while recieving help from my young friends? We began with the traditional scissors and moved to the "crazy" scissors once I was comfortable with their cutting skills. I don't yet have an accuracy assessment but I now know everyone can properly hold and cut with scissors.
