This has been a busy week with rehearsing for the Arts Festival and finishing up our art projects. May I take a moment to brag and say the art projects turned even better than Ianticipated!

Somehow in all of this we managed to get in a little learning. We are now talking about flying insects so of course I started with Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". It was followed by a nonfiction book on the metamorphosis of the caterpillar to butterfly. We noticed that butterflies had symmetrical markings on their wings. I pulled out some basic watercolor paints and the children had a wonderful time making new colors and matching spots on paper butterflies.

Today was a challenge day for most of the class. I wrote out several sentences on paper which they then wrote again on lined paper. For children this age it is often a challenge to make letters fit between lines and to avoid running words together. Although they haven't yet realized it, they already know most of the words on the papers so tomorrow they will come to me to "read" their work.

Here are some upcoming dates to remember:

Book orders are due tomorrow (Friday, the 20th).
Early Learners have their dress rehearsal at Mill Mountain on Tuesday (the 24th). Buses with seat belts will provide transportation. Half day children picked up at 1:00.
Our Arts Festival performance is Thursday (the 26th).
Yes, we do have school on Friday, the 27th.
