Did you see the lightning last night? Did it remind you and your child about our lesson on lightning and that it is really electricity? Isn't Mother Nature awesome with her beautiful displays of mundane, everyday occurrences like electrical discharges? How very thoughtful of her to give us yet another display today.
We talked again about storms today and focused a little more on safety issues. When asked why the pool closes when lightning is seen it occurred to me that as adults we expect children to just "know" why we take precautions. I did my best to explain the conductivity of water but I think they only understood water and electricity don't mix. I haven't yet thought of a safe demonstration for this concept but if you have suggestions, please pass them on.
Our class is now deep into rehearsal for the Arts Festival. Their music time has been temporarily increased to include the 5 -7 class. I'm beginning to hear a few snatches of songs but since I haven't yet heard the full story line, I'm just going to trust it will be great. It always is!
Strawberry Festival is next weekend and we were told yesterday at faculty meeting that over 225 volunteer slots are stilled open. I'm SURE the parents in my class have already reserved their spots but just in case, let me remind everyone that 12 hours of volunteer time are expected from each parent/guardian. Although not a requirement, you will see the school staff working too. This is not a public school funded by tax money. This is OUR school and OUR responsibility to keep it open. Let's all pull together and get the work done. If you need a little inspiration I'm sure your child would be happy to sing you the theme song to "Bob the Builder"!
