Just call me Murphy. You know that law that says whatever can go wrong will go wrong? Well this was the day I finally could rearrange our room to incorporate the new art table and the children's computer. It's also the day DSS licensing made an unannounced visit.
Since there were no air sirens blaring she was able to ascertain that we were changing the location of almost EVERY piece of furniture. She was even a good sport about it! She helped move the art table closer to the wall, made a few wise suggestions and redirected children to the other bathroom while I soaked a child's skirt. She watched with a smile as the children decided which art items were to be placed in their new table's drawers and complimented their choices. I bet she's been a day care worker or a preschool teacher at some point in her career. I can only hope.
On a lighter note, this has been such a fun week with our Dr. Seuss theme. I have been taking pictures of their wild socks, wacky clothes and hats and graphed their favorite colors. Tomorrow is "dress as what you want to grow up to be" day. Once I have those pictures I'll post all of them.
In the past several days we have used wooden letter beads to string first and last names on pipe cleaners, made "Cat in the Hat" hats in a 2 color pattern and used red and blue fish to make their own patterns. We have heard at least 10 Dr. Seuss stories on CD, on DVD and while being read. They love the Dr. Seuss stories so much I have decided to continue reading them all month while we also study Africa. I think Theodore Seuss Geisel would approve.
Yesterday our book buddies came over after lunch to read. Now our class had gone next door earlier in the day to here Keri's class recite "Green Eggs and Ham" but apparently it wasn't enough. As soon as the boys had read one story, my class requested "Green Eggs and Ham" again! Braden offered to be the reader and the children pulled up cushions and chairs as though they were watching a full length movie. He began with his very expressive voice and help their attention until the last word was uttered. They clapped and he grinned with the happiest face I've ever seen. Yep, this school is worth the blood, sweat and tears (that was today) we all put into it.
What a great segue to the part where I remind you Information Sessions are next Tuesday night! Don't forget to come with your questions about next year. Bring a couple of friends too. They'll thank you later.
