I hope you didn't think my class had gone underground or AWOL. It has been almost a week since the last post!

Let me try to catch you up: We made and flew plastic bag kites with Kim's class, T is the letter of the week, The children have drawn out their Art Show work and will begin painting tomorrow, we have started working with patterns AND we are ready for the Open House tomorrow. Why does it feel like it should be Friday already?

Kim found a great recycling idea using grocery store bags and bamboo shisk-a-bob sticks. I feared it would be too hard for any of the children to master but they surprised me. I showed them once how to construct the kites and the buddies began to create. Alas, after a week of wind, the air was still Friday so flying them was a bit of a challenge. The fun is, however, in trying. The pictures say it all.

Monday brought the letter T which is always a favorite with the children. Consider the letter formation (super easy!) and the terrific sound it makes (especially when repeated endlessly). We have a large turkey on the wall which is our "Thankful" turkey. I asked the class to name him and after some very silly discussion they came up with Tom. It starts with T you know.

We have been working very hard on our art projects for the Thanksgiving Art Show. Normally we are already done but this is Pat's first year here and we are admittedly overwhelming. To make the long story short, we got our materials later than planned which changed a few of my plans. The children have been great sports and have gotten about 1/2 way through their art work. Please don't ask how this can possibly be finished in time. just rest assured it always is.

Open House is tomorrow and it's not too late to send interested friends over here to have a look. Parents get a $250 tuition award when a referring family applies.

Next week we will make our snack for Wednesday. I ask that each child bring 1 cup of an item which we will mix together. We will join Katlyn's class in this adventure we call "Friendship Mix". I have the list below:

Andy - pretzels Bryan - chocolate chips Kris - Cheerios
Emma - raisins Evalyn - cashews Grace - marshmallows (mini)
Gracie - Chex Logan - Craisins Xan - any dried fruit

On Wednesday, the children will not need to bring their snack, notebook or backpacks. We will eat the Friendship Mix for fruit break and at 11:15 walk over to Hollins College. The art show is open 11:00 - 1:00 but many parents like to view it with their child. We will arrive at the Moody Center at about 11:30 and you are welcome to take your child upstairs to the art show. I will take any children to the art show whose parents cannot meet us.

The feast begins at noon so you will need to meet up with us before then so you can find seating. We highly encourage sitting with other families - especially those in you child's class - so you can get to know the names you so often hear at home. If you cannot attend, grandparents or other adults important to your child are welcome. (They are also welcome if you can attend.) I just ask you let me know in advance so your child and I will know who to meet there. Everything is over by 1:00 and you are welcome to take your child's art work home. Several teachers will be upstairs to assist with removal.
