We ate our way through this day! After working so hard to bake up pumpkin goodies yesterday, it was time to reward ourselves with the food.
First we tackled the pumpkin seeds. You may remember we made two flavors: Cajun and Cinnamon Sugar. I was guessing the children would reject the spicy Cajun but 5 of them really liked the "hot" flavor. The Cinnamon Sugar was a more popular with 7 loving it. My graph shows me 4 children liked both flavors. The Pumpkin Bran muffins were a hit with all but 1 devouring them.
After recess, Katlyn's class joined us to have an apple tasting. We cut 4 types of apples and had the children tell us if they liked each one and which one was their favorite. The Grimes Golden was an overwhelming favorite. It was sweet and firm. The Fuji came in next with 2 calling it their favorite. The sour Winesap and Gala each had 1 choosing it as their favorite. We were surprised that 5 children liked all 4 apple varieties. Fruit break has suddenly become much easier; just pack an apple!
I know several of the children already picked out their Halloween costume for this year. We are planning a low key Halloween party next Friday (the 29th) and it is our custom here to have a Halloween parade. We ask that you send your child a costume to school which they will change into around fruit break time. They will have other activities so please keep this in mind when selecting a costume for school.
You may want to use last year's in case there is a spill or craft accident. Lynn will substitute for me that day so I can be with my parents for my mother's surgery but I know everything will go smoothly. The staff always takes pictures which we will post the following week.
