Let me start by thanking everyone who came last night or let me know they would be missing. A huge part of our success at Community School lies in the open communication between families and teachers. The more information we share and questions we answer, the less likely we are to have a misunderstanding so please always feel free to contact me with any question or let me know anything you feel may impact your child's day.
Our morning seemed extra special with two "Show & Shares". Bryan was our leader and went first with his Tzu Tzu (I'm guessing on the spelling) pet and Andy followed with a superhero book from China. While none of us could read the writing, we could figure out the story by looking at the pictures. These were hard acts to follow but I did my best!
This does bring up a question from a parent. If your child is absent on their Leader Day, please allow them to bring their "Show & Share" when they return. Also, if a child forgets their "Show & Share" on their Leader Day, let them bring it on the following day.
Ally from Hollins College was here to day to help us. We began making our "All About Me" books. This is a yearlong project which will include pictures and drawings. I know the changes will be amazing as they mature during the year.
Today was the first Lunch-A-Month and it was a hit. Spaghetti was served which we think of as an Italian dish. When I pointed out that spaghetti was a dish served in China and brought to Italy by explorers the discussion turned to China. Several children expressed their desire to go to China, especially when Andy told them he had been there. Don't be surprised if you hear tonight your child wants to travel with Andy the next time he goes. Personally, I think it would make a lovely field trip!
Parents were very generous with their time in signing up for Fall Festival last night and making play dough. The few extra hands still needed are listed below:
Jeter's Farm on Wednesday, Oct. 13: We need to transport 9 children. We teacher's can drive if needed but we will still need 1 or 2 more drivers.
Fall Festival Campus Fun on Thursday, Oct. 14: We need a photographer (not a professional, just an enthusiast) and a leader for the Scavenger Hunt. If we have more volunteers than we thought we needed it's no problem. Just as we predicted, we already thought of another fun activity and could use extra hands.
Play Dough Makers (my class only): Open months are Oct. Nov. March, April and May.
You can let Tulie, Katlyn or me know if you would like to help. Thanks in advance!
