It's that time of year. Just as we recover from the Strawberry Festival we begin Arts Festival rehearsals in earnest. If we have a glazed look in our eyes or tell you about yet another schedule change, please be patient and understand we are dispensing information and adapting just as quickly as possible. And please ask again if we forget to give an answer or you simply don't understand.

Truthfully I don't remember much about Monday other than the children talking about the Kids Games section at Festival. I do remember some discussion on space walking and watching a Space Shuttle video.

Yesterday we played a sound and letter game. I gave the children a word and they identified the beginning sound and the letter that made the sound. Next they created the letter with their letter shapes. They were doing so well I just had to try to trick them so I said the word "circus". They identified the /s/ sound as the initial sound and guessed S as the letter. When I said no they immediately came back with the letter C. I guess it's only a half-way trick when they self correct.

This morning I told the children about a Discovery Channel show I watched Sunday night. Of all things, it was about the gravitational pull of black holes. I didn't realize there were so many black holes and that every galaxy has one (the reason behind the swirling motion of each galaxy). It also told of black hole becoming too dense with its own gravitational pull and exploding with two opposing blasts called nebula. I realized I had seen pictures of several nebulae in all their splendor. I went back to my large NASA published book and found the pictures to share with the class. They were as impressed with the colors of the hot gases and the sheer energy that shot them out into space. Science can be so exciting!

Today was buddy day and this week it was planned by Ronald in Kim's class. He requested I bring my kites and asked other children in his class to bring theirs. We joined them in the field after music to fly the kites. It was a bit challenging since this was the only morning in weeks without wind. Kim and I did get some good pictures which we will post soon. Maybe the wind will cooperate next week.

I have been asked about El Rodeo for our children. We have our picnic next Tuesday at noon. Each child will need $3 and parents wanting to eat with their child will also need $3. No drink is provided so please bring one. I will need numbers of parents by Friday to give the restaurant ample time.
