We have been working so hard the last few days, I forgot to blog yesterday! We have been working on the letter K, preparing for St. Patrick's Day and planting.
Today we cut out kangaroo parts and glued them to paper bags. Each kangaroo also had a pouch for their joey to ride in. It was so cute to watch them make their kangaroo puppets "hop" around the room. We decided to keep them here for more play and let them come home at the next conference. You will be amazed with their cutting skills.
Yesterday the class colored the pages to a book they are each making called "Green". The entire book consists of objects that are usually green. Try to keep in mind there are many shades of green when their peas seem closer to purple.
We have been talking a great deal about the history and legends behind St. Patrick's Day. I wish you could have seen the shock on their faces when I told them Patrick wasn't even from Ireland but England. I was shocked when I learned this fact too. More interesting than the patron saint of Ireland though were the wee people - the leprechauns.
They have in the past been a bit naughty here at C.S. so I have warned them that their toilet water may turn green and furniture might be misplaced. It always happens when the class is not in the room so we've never been able to catch one. The children have decided this is the year to change history and have designed a trap. We have a net baited with fake gold. When a leprechaun steps in to take the gold, I will pull our rope and hoist him up in the air. Naturally the children have decided I should hide behind the toy shelf during fruit break for the big moment. We'll let you know how it works out.
Don't forget to wear your green tomorrow and keep your eyes open for any of those naughty leprechauns!
