It is always a bit tricky when we miss the first day of our school week. The entire class thought today was Monday. It took a little convincing that they really did go to see the Enrichment teachers today. It didn't help that they haven't been to see them for at least three weeks because of weather.
After Calendar time we counted our days in school. We are now up to 92 days which puts our 100th Day of School party at next Friday (If Mother Nature cooperates!). Several of the children have told me what they are bringing - or making - of 100 items. Please don't forget to help your child come up with a creative way to count or express 100. We'll take pictures at our party.
With the little class time we have on Tuesdays, we reviewed our -ad words. The children had already made a card with"ad" written on it and today wrote the individual letters that can pair with ad to make words. It is amazing to see the difference in their writing skills from the last time they did this with the -at word family. The letters are much easier to recognize now and the children were quite proud of themselves.
We are still collecting Pennies for Peace and will until Greg Mortensen comes to Hollins in April. You and your children have been so generous that my rather large Peace Ball is almost full. Since we are about to celebrate 100 days, we are going to start counting the pennies (and other coins) we've collected. As we find groups of 100 pennies we'll put them in 2 coin rolls to make a "Victory Pile". Not only will this help us to practice counting, practice sorting and make more room in my Peace Ball but it will also help POP when they later collect coins. It all works together to help our community!
