How did it get to be Friday so fast? Our morning began with Music and Spanish. This was our class' first day with Bernie at the helm in Spanish. He will teach while Elena is in Bolivia with our Middle School exchange students.

Once back from Fruit Break play we got down to the task of beginning our day. It was calendar time and the big countdown to 100 days. Next was Brandon's Show & Share which was a wizard's costume. He surprised everyone by uttering his magic words and pulling a rabbit (stuffed) out of his hat. The children were thrilled so he then made a ball disappear. He made everyone's day by allowing each child to wear the outfit and pull a rabbit from the hat. You would think they would have been either impatient while waiting or loose interest but they totally surprised me by clapping for each of their classmates as though it was the first time they had seen the trick. We can learn so much from children.

We continued our 100 counting by painting fingers today. They were a bit surprised to discover they all had ten fingers and even more surprised that I knew they all would. Since only 9 children were present we had to figure out how many fingers would be on our paper today. Once we settled on 90 we began painting so don't be surprised to find some stained fingers.

Now that the snow is melting, the dynamics of outside play has changed. One sledding hill has been banned because the packed snow sends the children too close to the back fence. Our children didn't know until they took a ride that sent several under the fence. They thought it was funny and didn't notice their teachers just got some new gray hairs. Once the sledding was moved they discovered the area where they once made snowballs was now muddy so they altered the game to - you guessed it- mudball throwing. When they returned to the classroom I was more than a little surprised at the sight. You will probably want to send in new changes of clothes after today.

Next week has two major events for us. Thursday evening is the Information Session (see the flyer in your child's notebook or in Quick Notes) and our 100th day of school. If Monday's predicted snow is as light as they currently think, then we should be able to celebrate next Friday. Don't forget to help your child with their 100 items project!
